Gangsters, Sweater Vests, and Hip-Hop! Oh my!

The sessy Common recently sat down with the folks over at Maxim.com to discuss his role in American Gangster and some other fun stuff.

Maxim.com: In American Gangster and Smokin' Aces, you play a right-hand man. When do you get to be the man?
Common: [Laughs] At this point as a new actor, I'm taking the roles that allow me to grow, and I'm not taking on too much. But I am ready to be the leading man.

Maxim.com: You're one of three rappers in the cast. Is branching off outside of hip-hop the only way to pay the upkeep on a Bentley these days?
Common: Every individual has their path. I don't care if you rap, it doesn't mean you'll be a good actor. If I try a singing career and I can't sing, it ain't gonna work. People have to find things that fit them and work well with them. For me, it's about building a legacy and expressing myself as an artist and continuing to build a platform for me to make change in the world.
